ATR 42 and 72

The ATR 42 was ATR's first aircraft with the prototype first flying in 1984.  The designation "42" was for the planned passenger capacity of the aircraft.  The ATR 72 is a stretched version of the ATR 42 and first flew in 1988.

The ATR 42 and 72 are used by over 100 airlines around the world.  Production of both types exceeds 600.
