Anticipating
raids by U.S. B-29 Superfortresses, the
Japanese government purchased license rights to the German Me 163
Komet. Only an instruction manual and one sample engine made
it to Japan; however, Mitsubishi was able to produce seven J8M
Shusui (Sword Stroke) aircraft before the end of the war.
The prototype flew once, crashing shortly after takeoff.
