Nieuport Type 28

The Nieuport 28 was a departure from earlier Nieuport designs, the company having decided something new was needed to keep up with German designs.  First flown in 1917, the Nieuport 28 was used by the French and U.S. air services.  The aircraft had a tendency to shed upper-wing fabric in long dives.

The top U.S. ace, Eddie Rickenbacker, flew a Nieuport 28 in the 94th "Hat in the Ring" Aero Squadron.
