Boeing 80

click on photo for more images

The Boeing 80 was designed in response to increased demand on Boeing Air Transport's San Francisco-Chicago route.  First flown in August 1928, it differed from its monoplane contemporaries (the Ford and Fokker Trimotors) in order to reduce landing speeds at the high-altitude airports on this route.

The model 80 stayed in service until 1933 when it was replaced by the Boeing Model 247.
