The
first Curtiss Robin was designed to use World War I surplus
OX-5 engines and flew in 1928. Improved versions included more
powerful engines.
A Robin C-1 was used to set world endurance
records in 1929 and 1930 of 460 and 647 hours (27 days). In
1938, Douglas "Wrong Way" Corrigan flew from NYC to
Ireland after stating he would fly to California. The U.S.
Army used a modified Robin to test radio controlled aircraft.
In the summer of 1929, Curtiss was producing 17
Robins a week.
