The
DB 605 was introduced in 1942 as a successor to the DB
601. Like the DB 601, the DB 605 had direct fuel injection as
well as a fluid clutch drive for the supercharger that turned the
blower slowly at sea level but reduced the slippage to almost zero
at altitude.
