Fairey Aviation was formed by Richard Fairey in July 1915 to produce the Short 827.

Fairey developed it own aircraft, several gems among a list of average aircraft known for their awkward appearance.  The company's largest facility was the Great Western Aerodrome at Harmondsworth.

A government forced sell-out to Westland ended Fairey Aviation in 1960.  Fairey's legacy is London Heathrow Airport built on the site of the Great Western Aerodrome.
