Pitts S-1/S-2 Special

click on photo for more images

The Pitts S-1/S-2 is the most successful and recognized American built aerobatic aircraft.  The second S-1 built, flown and named "Little Stinker" by Betty Skelton,  won the 1949 and 1950 Feminine Aerobatic Championships--beginning the Pitts domination of aerobatic championships into the 1980s.  Many Pitts Specials can be seen on the airshow circuit.

The rights to the Pitts S-1/S-2 was acquired by Aviat Aviation in 1991.

Factoid: The Pitts S-1/S-2 has won more aerobatic contests than any other aircraft type.
